I had debilitating constant back pain. After treatment I could climb stairs, fully mobilize, resume hobbies and, feel happy. It has changed my life, excellent treatment.

My urologist had found no cause of pain on inspection and after an ultrasound confirmed no problem there, he was mystified as to the solution. My problem was still there however.

Intermittent sharp stabbing pains could happen at any time rendering me doubled up, and though these only lasted a couple of seconds each time, the anticipation of further torture resulted in anxiety and nervousness and a total lack of confidence. This sequence of events had started at the beginning of October when the drawbridge at my GP surgery had been well and truly lifted because of covid. No other more serious illnesses appeared to matter!
Then one day in November whilst driving, several short stabs took my breath away. It was time for action. I telephoned Little Aston hospital and requested an urgent appointment with a urologist. Next day I saw a urologist who prescribed a month of antibiotics to rule out infection. By the end of the 28 days, with still no relief, I was desperate to visit him again asking about painkillers. He assured me that there was no apparent cause of the problem and encouraged the use of Nurofen plus.

Would I consider a pain killing injection?

Doctor Doger came highly recommended. I was willing to try anything! No other answer was available. The next day 11th December, I saw Doctor Doger. He explained that the steroid injection is carried out under x-ray to ensure accuracy and effectiveness and it may not work. He was only aiming at 50% reduction in pain. I found this a little disappointing but there was no choice. He would arrange an appointment at his clinic and write to me. The appointment was fixed for 23rd December. I was instructed not to drive after the injection and I would need to rest for a few days afterwards. I imagined therefore, and he confirmed, I might be in pain for a few days after the procedure? It was Christmas and my family were coming to us. I would totally foul up any of their celebrations over that period and to be honest, I was nervous about the injection from what I had read. Timidly, I cancelled the appointment resolving to plan again after Christmas. I survived the celebrations on painkillers, just.

I tried my GP again but they were closed for several days after Christmas. Why is A&E overwhelmed? I tried again on the 28th December but again to no avail. The pain was worse. My wife dropped me off at Good Hope Hospital Emergency at lunch time that day. After waiting over five hours curled up on the same chair, I was invited to see a Doctor who gave me considerable time and attention listening to my catalogue of events. He was excellent and thought it worth considering that the pain might be coming from my hips. An x-ray was suggested and was done within the hour but was inconclusive. In the meantime he gave me stronger painkillers, naproxen and co-codamol and advised a blood test to rule out prostate problems. This had also been physically checked by the urologist. Later that week, I telephoned my GP again to arrange the blood test, only between 8-9am of course! Eventually, he returned my call and confirmed I had done the right thing in cancelling the injection because of the increase in the omicron variant. After all, “we don’t know what we are dealing with!” Shouldn’t he be finding that out?

Still, none of the medics had given me any hope and nothing was being done to find the cause of the problem. Another private appointment with an orthopaedic surgeon was two weeks away! My wife was as frustrated as me about the medical inactivity.
She said one day “What have you got to lose? Go for the injection!”I gingerly attended Heath Lodge Clinic on 7th January expecting a painful procedure, three days of pain afterwards resulting in marginal reduction of pain and which may not work anyway.

I was impressed with the clinic and the way the injection was carried out under x-ray and several pictures were taken as the steroid was being injected. It was painful, but nowhere near as bad as I expected. It seemed to last between five and ten minutes and I was wheeled back to my cubicle for recovery. What a relief that it was over! I had no pain from the injection and after half an hour, I could go home. I then had three days with NO PAIN!

During the days that followed, I experienced one or two shooting pains each day, much less than previously. A week later, I had another three days without pain, then a painless week, followed by occasional weaker pain once per day on some days. I have discovered that these twinges generally occur as a result of my seating position and I am amending it accordingly. Throughout this period since the injection, I have had no pain during the night and I am sleeping better than for many years. If my situation remains unchanged, I shall be very happy and consider the injection 95% successful, a little better than Doctor Doger anticipated. In my experience, I can thoroughly recommend him for his work and I shall not hesitate to see him again if my dreaded problem returns.

He always makes you feel at ease and explains everything that he has done and is going to do. Always on time and all the staff on reception are always polite.

Have enjoyed superb face to face consultations with Dr Doger regarding my back pain. I have had excellent pain relief from his treatments. I am not suffering any pain whatsoever. He has now discharged me from his care but has referred me for physiotherapy. I am extremely content with the suggested forward plan.

Whilst under the care of Dr Doger for outpatient and inpatient care, I have had a positive experience. He has always been polite, professional, listened to my concerns and given answers and solutions. He has been considerate of my needle phobia and put me at ease.

Dr Doger has been amazing. I was suffering with a condition that took me off my feet. Multiple visits to A&E and neurologists did not help. He was thorough and made me feel at ease! I am happy to say the procedure he performed has made me 100 times better.

Having seen 2 previous pain management doctors (consultants) for pain relief with no relief at all; I was then referred to Dr Doger. He was the 1st consultant to properly examine me. He was the only one who offered some sort of help for the pain. He has been honest about the outcomes of treatment and has tried in every way to help. Dr Doger is the most helpful and kind doctor I have seen. The pain relief from my condition is only 40% but that is a life line from the worst pain.

Dr Doger is the most incredible pain consultant. I had spent 4 years in the worst pain imaginable and had seen many other consultants (Birmingham and London) to try to get help. Only Dr Doger had the correct tests done and listened to my symptoms to correctly diagnose and treat my neck nerve root pain.
